Sean Meenan is at it again, and in case you have not heard, Habana Outpost is coming to New Orleans! The Habana Outpost is expanding and will take over a vacant lot on the corner of Esplanade and Rampart that used to house an old gas station. The New Orleans location will be based off of the current community and environmental oriented location in Brooklyn.
But before we get to all the corn, outdoor seating, and movie nights, there are some details to figure out. Because the location features an abandoned gas station, the Underground Storage Tanks (UST) must be dealt with. Although most people would have left them there, Sean decided to remove them.
The US Environmental Protection Agency started a UST program to deal with the issues involved with USTs. USTs tend to hold hazardous materials and can leak into the environment. The greatest threat from UST leaks is hazardous materials seeping into the soil and contaminating groundwater, which is where almost half of Americans get their water. Although removal can be difficult and costly, Sean did not hesitate to have them removed from the new Habana Outpost location.
